• Poplar Bluff Police are currently investigating a reported drive-by shooting that occurred Tuesday evening at Bacon Park. Police received a report of shots fired at about 6:17 p.m. at the park. A traveling softball team was on the playing field at the time, and a pickup basketball game was going on at the area with the basketball court. Police received reports of the incident via cell phones of those at the park. Captain Don Trout says as of yet, they have no description of the vehicle involved in the incident, though two vehicles at the site were hit with bullets. No injuries were reported. Those with information concerning the incident are encouraged to call the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

  • POPLAR BLUFF – When long-time Butler County Collector Brenda Fox died in August, she left not only many mourning friends and family but also a vacant county post. In November, Butler County voters will have the opportunity to elect a new county collector. Three names are currently in contention for the post: Chris Michel, Emily Parks, and Tammy Marler.   • Poplar Bluff - Poplar Bluff is about to get its own public radio station, said Robert Smith, one of the founders of Poplar Bluff’s new “Black River Public Radio.” The radio station is taking its initial steps Saturday, Nov. 8 with a fundraiser to be held in the upstairs ballroom of Cape Arrowhead, 502 Vine Street. Smith explained about $10,000 worth of equipment needs to be purchased to get Black River Radio on the air. Tickets for the Nov. 8 event will be $20 each and will include hors d’oeuvres, wine and entertainment provided by “The Millstones,” a band made up of local musicians: Wally Duncan, Elizabeth Engram, John Engram, Blake Wade, and Dan Jackson.
