  • Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08) led a bipartisan letter along with over 60 of his colleagues to President Trump urging him to revoke a “midnight rule” from the Obama Administration that would ban lead ammunition and fishing tackle from being used on any public lands. On January 19, 2017, the last full day of the Obama Administration, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) issued a director’s order phasing out the use of traditional lead ammunition and tackle on federal lands. Upon sending the letter, Smith commented, “This last minute rule issued by the Obama White House is simply unacceptable. This is exactly the type of regulatory red tape which has been thrown up by unelected bureaucrats

  • Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08) filed H.R.824, the No Transportation Funds for Sanctuary Cities Act, to block Federal Highway Trust fund dollars from being awarded to states and local governments if they fail to obey federal immigration laws and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requests. Before Congressman Smith introduced the bill, he said, “Over 300 cities and counties employ policies to stonewall the federal government and prevent the Department of Homeland Security from effectively enforcing our immigration laws. We are a nation of law and order, and cities that actively work against the law of the land should face consequences.   • The Mules Booster Club has named basketball standouts Kiley Bess and Willie Lucas Jr. of Poplar Bluff High School the Athletes of the Month for December. Willie, a senior, is currently averaging 20.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game with 85 percent from the free-throw line. His career total is 1,074 points, 511 rebounds, 114 blocks and free throws of 80 percent. Willie was named to the All-Tournament Team at the ShowDown during which he won the three-point contest. In the classroom, he maintains a 9.71 GPA. “Willie is a hard worker and is very determined,” basketball coach Will Durden stated. “Willie has had a very good career and will continue to get better.” Kiley has averaged 15.8

  • Jazz bands from schools across Southeast Missouri will come together to perform in the Tinnin Center as Three Rivers College hosts its 26th Annual Jazz Festival on Feb. 9 and 11. Both shows will be at 7 p.m. Admission for the Feb. 9 performance will be $2 for students and $3 for adults. Admission to the Feb. 11 performance is free. Both nights will feature performances from the Three Rivers College Jazz Band, which will be joined on Feb. 9 by junior high, high school, and college jazz bands from across the region. The Saturday, Feb. 11 performance will feature the Southeast All-District Jazz Band, which consists of the best high school jazz musicians in Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA)

On January 27th, thousands of people around the country will participate in the March for Life to serve as a voice for those who weren’t given a choice to live. This year’s theme, The Power of One, is centered around the idea that one person can make a difference in the world, whether in the life of one or the life of many.
