One in five people will have a panic attack once in their lifetime. What would you do when this happens to a student, loved one, or church member? Attend the Youth Mental Health First Aid course to recognize symptoms of mental health problems, how to help, and how to guide the youth to professional help.  University of Missouri Extension is sponsoring Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Thursday, December 3 in Poplar Bluff. The one-day training will be held at the First Presbyterian Church from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The registration fee is waived which includes a workbook and lunch. This summer 4-H ran a 9 week summer program for ages 5-18. Each Monday youth came to Poplar Bluff to participate in life skill building classes. The cost of classes were $5 each week or $40 for all 9 weeks. Youth were able to participate in robotics, geocaching, arts and crafts, cake decorating, electricity, gardening, healthy living, photography and scrapbooking. All of these activities are part of the 4-H program. In 4-H youth can join clubs in the area and participate in a variety or projects each month. In Butler County there are clubs in Poplar Bluff, Neelyville, Rombauer, Fisk, and Qulin.  If you are interested in getting your child involved in  4-H please contact the University of Missouri Extension

Three Rivers College will hold five Fall registration events at locations across Southeast Missouri, July 27 through August 4.  Registration events will be held in Doniphan High School, 4-7 p.m. July 27; Three Rivers – Piedmont in Clearwater High School, 2-5 p.m. July 28; the Delta Center in Portageville, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. July 29; the South Central Education Consortium in Willow Springs, 4-7 p.m. July 30; and at Three Rivers’ new Sikeston location, 4-7 p.m. August 4. The events provide another opportunity for enrolling for classes, in addition to the assistance offered weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the main campus; 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at full-service locations in Dexter, Malden, Kennett and Willow Springs;

The 23rd annual Children's Theatre Drama Camp will be held July 27-31 on Three Rivers College’s Poplar Bluff Campus, in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. This will be the first year that the drama camp is spearheaded by the Three Rivers College Theatre Department. “We’re excited to be hosting this camp again and to be able to help continue this great tradition of fine arts education,” said Tim Thompson, Director of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center and one of the camp’s instructors. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for kids to have fun, develop their creative side, and participate in the excitement that is the world of theatre.” Campers will participate in activities teaching acting, improvisation, dance, theatre games, stage makeup, creative

Registration deadline for the robotics summer day program at Butler County University of Missouri Extension is coming up soon! Summer programs provide a safe environment for youth ages 5-18 to spend summer learning about the world. Through robotics youth learn through hands-on activities. Youth will learn the basic concepts related to robotic subsystems such as structure, power, sensors, control and programming. This course will be held on June 1 from 1:00 pm– 4:00 pm.
