• Butler County 4-H is excited to start new a 4-H Shooting Sports Club that includes archery and rifle in Poplar Bluff. The goal of these projects is to teach safe and responsible use of shooting sports equipment, sound decision-making, self-discipline and concentration. 4-H Shooting Sports promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Each shooting sports club is led by a certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructor who strives to make each meeting fun for the members by incorporating games and competition. Each youth must enroll in 4-H and complete 6 hours of safety instruction. The Shooting Sports safety training will be held on Thursday, May 28 from 6pm-9pm and Saturday, May 30 from 9am-12pm at the Poplar Bluff

  • The Libla family finalized a seven figure donation to the Three Rivers Endowment Trust during a signing event held at Three Rivers College on Monday, May 8. In return, the college announced that institution’s proposed athletics building would be named the “Libla Family Sports Complex.” “We’re proud to help Three Rivers College launch this endeavor, and this is part of our commitment to giving back to the community as much as we can,” said David Libla. “By having this project named for the Libla family, it serves as a remembrance of our parents, and hopefully inspires our children and grandchildren to continue giving back to this community which has given so much to us.” Attending the signing ceremony were

  • On Wednesday, May 6 over 250 4th grade students from Qulin, Fisk, Neelyville, Sacred Heart and Malden schools came to Lake Wappapello’s Visitor’s Center for Ecology Day. Students attended 9 sessions learning about the Earth, resources, and the lake. The event was hosted by Stephanie Milner, 4-H Youth Development Specialist, with the University of Missouri Extension Butler County. Presenters came from the US Forest Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, University of Missouri Extension, and the Missouri Department of Conservation

  • Three Rivers College will hold its bi-annual mass casualty training event on Tuesday, May 5. The training helps prepare students in participating programs be prepared for a mass casualty emergency such as a natural disaster or terrorist attack, and tests the college’s emergency response plans. The training event will be held at the college’s Nursing and Allied Health building on Pine Street in Poplar Bluff. Students from several fields of study will participate in the training, including three classes of nursing students, EMT students, and Paramedic students. The training will also receive support from Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Black River Medical Center, local ambulance services, law enforcement agencies, and fire departments.   • Three Rivers College will spotlight its career-technical programs at the Career/Tech Information Fair from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the Bess Activity Center on Three Rivers’ Poplar Bluff Campus. “In today’s employment market, many of the high-demand, high-paying jobs require career or technical training rather than a four-year degree,” said Dr. Brenda Russell, Dean of Career Education and Workforce Development at Three Rivers. “At Three Rivers we offer that training through certificate and associate of applied science degree programs in a variety of career and technical fields.” At the Career/Tech Information Fair, attendees can talk to representatives of Three Rivers’ career and technical programs about the benefits and career opportunities offered at Three Rivers.
