Blue Relics and Revivals

Oct 18, 2013

I don’t know about you but I think it’s an exciting event when a new shop opens up in our area. So when I read about the launching of Blue Relics and Revivals on Facebook a couple of weeks ago, I couldn’t wait to see what goodies these creative sisters had up their sleeves.

Jami, Heather, and Shannon  – or the Belew sisters – are the ladies I am referring to and the proprietors of Poplar Bluff’s newest (and coolest!) home decor/vintage store which opened on October 5th. I met Jami several years ago when our boys played travelling baseball together. It didn’t take long for me to see why this family is so loved and respected in the community. They’re all smart, talented, notoriously funny, and genuinely fun to be around.

I wasn’t surprised the day I visited Blue Relics and Revivals that I ended up spending well over an hour in the store. From the moment I walked in through the entrance quaintly staged with pumpkins and mums I knew it would be a treat. It was relaxing to take my time and browse the beautiful antique treasures mixed with modern finds, as well as stunning hand-made decor items created by the sisters, themselves. I thoroughly enjoyed the spirited conversation with Jami’s sister, Heather, as she shared hilarious stories of her childhood that just further revealed her family’s heritage of hard work, decent character, and good old fashioned humor. My visit with Heather at Blue Relics and Revivals made my whole day! 1376429_423046824473627_1518359667_n

Jami, Heather, and Shannon opened Blue Relics and Revivals in honor of their mother, Sue Blue Belew, who, sadly, passed away four years ago. The sisters fondly remember their mother’s knack for restoring old dilapidated things she’d find in junk stores, making them beautiful and functional again. They learned from her how to transform “trash” into treasures and relics into lovingly repurposed heirlooms. Things that others had thrown away, Sue would turn into a featured vignette in their childhood home. Jami affectionately recalls, “…it is all bittersweet because she is, in fact, the one who has inspired us. She loved antiques and loved to decorate for every holiday, and just lived antiques and home decor and shopping and….well, all the things we love!”

Blue Relics and Revivals proudly exhibits Sue’s daughters’ inherited gift for creating a downhome atmosphere where the shopper is surrounded by charming inventory that includes gorgeous hand crafted, made to order wreaths and swags,

scented candles, vintage furniture and decor pieces, vivid modern fabrics paired with antique items, and so much more to make for a uniquely enhanced shopping experience. And I can’t stress enough how inviting is the warm hospitality of the Belew ladies and staff.
