The Now Network -- Big Brother?

May 19, 2009

Surely you’ve heard the latest Sprint commercial about the “Now Network.” It is a yellow-color schemed advertisement that discusses statistics related to what is happening right now on their network. Sure, we all have wondered whether our information providers are monitoring our messages, but this advertisement blatantly says “WE ARE READING YOUR TEXT MESSAGES!!!”

Face it, life isn’t private any more. Emails aren’t private. Text Messages are not private. But to have that information boasted as a great reason to use their network…are they stupid? Why not just say “Come use our network so we can read you messages and watch your surfing patterns!”

I can assure you that semo.net does not monitor your emails or the web sites you visit.

Here’s the commercial, please take the time to add your comments below:

    I see. It’s Platinum, btw 8)

They aren’t stupid (or at least they don’t think so).

    They think WE are.

I often get the impression that big companies, and especially the government, feel that John (or Jane) Q. Public exists to hear the company’s NEXT GREAT THING TO THROW MONEY AT. Logic, intelligence, or common sense notwithstanding.

They might as well boast about it. At least they’re finally being honest about what they are doing. Maybe DC could take a lesson here.

The only amusing thing I find here is that you act surprised.
And this (Sprint) is a legitimate and above-board company…supposedly.

What, do you suppose, is our faithful, patriotic, constitutionally-minded government doing?

Hey clanheavymetal, just to be clear, I was trying to state that my surprise is at the boasting:

But to have that information boasted as a great reason to use their network…are they stupid? Why not just say “Come use our network so we can read you messages and watch your surfing patterns!”

Brian you are absolutely correct! Wake up people. This is not just now starting. It has been going on and will continue. What a great marketing tool to sell to all those “Other” analysts. Which direction do you want the sheep to go next?
