Doniphan, Mo. – Funeral services will be held Friday for a 36-year-old Poplar Bluff man who was killed in a shooting incident at Doniphan early Saturday morning. A visitation and memorial service will be held Friday evening, Sept. 5 for Manuel G. Williams, of Poplar Bluff, and formerly of Grandin, will bet the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.

Charged with first degree murder in the incident is Michael L. Futrell, 56, of Doniphan. Futrell is additionally charged with armed criminal action and unlawful use of a loaded firearm, also both felony charges. The range of punishment for the first degree murder charge, if convicted, is death or imprisonment for life without eligibility for probation or parole.

From the affidavit for probable cause filed on the incident, Doniphan Police were called at about 11:31 p.m. Friday night to 1006 Jackson Street in Doniphan. When officers arrived, they found a male subject later identified as Manuel. G. Williams lying ibility for probation or patrol.n the driveway face up. He was bleeding from the head and chest area. EMS responded. Williams was dead. He had sustained two gunshot wounds, one through the chest, and one through the head.

According to witness reports, a party was being held at the house, and Futrell and Williams got into an argument. Futrell reportedly left the party angrily and returned to the residence a few minutes later. Futrell allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Williams. One of the witnesses, who became frightened after the first shot, reportedly ran to his nearby residence and hid behind a truck, and then heard a second gun shot. The witness said Futrell then ran to his own home, located only about five houses away, at 904 Jackson Street. Police found Futrell there and seized his weapon. Police there confiscated a handgun and three handgun magazines lying next to it. The body was turned over to the Ripley County Coroner. An autopsy was scheduled.

Police did find evidence of alcohol use at the site of the party and shooting.

Williams was the son of Jerry Williams and Clara (Cora) Williams. He was born in 1978 in Poplar Bluff. He was a carpenter, and friends say he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of the Christian Family Fellowship in Poplar Bluff.

Surviving are one son, Tyler Williams, of Grandin; three daughters, Sarena Williams and Madison Williams, both of Sullivan; and Katelyne Williams of Poplar Bluff. Also surviving are two step daughters, Breanna Davison and Halie Perley, both of Poplar Bluff; his parents, Juerry (and Lorna) Williams of Poplar Bluff; and Clara Williams of Grandin; as well as two sisters, Tracey Williams King and Falechia Williams, both of Grandin; and one brother, Jerry Williams of Grandin.
