Three Rivers College's Communications Department has won five "Medallion" awards for excellence in public relations from District 5 of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR). The department earned first place awards for the college's website, a promotional "Graduation Success Stories" video, and the college's monthly "President's Perspective" e-newsletter. It won third place awards for the 2013 Viewbook it produced for prospective students, and for custom-designed signage for the institution's College Store. A record total of $24,000 was raised for the United Cancer Assistance Network and the Dig for Life program during the fifth annual Pink-Out Day fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 17, in cooperation with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Something of a local holiday, Pink-Out Day is the brainchild of Poplar Bluff Junior High science teacher Jenn Nicolini, Senior High Student Council advisor Hope Conover, and former student Brooke Kirby. Cheerleaders, student council and other volunteers help sell pink T-shirts that the school community and business sector wear throughout the day, culminating with a sea of pink in the audience during an evening Mules Football game at Fred M. On Friday, Oct. 17, Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globetrotters visited Eugene Field, where the 2003 NBA Hall of Famer put on a basketball clinic for the elementary students. Lemon and the Harlem All-Stars would take on a team of Three Rivers College Alumni later on over the weekend to serve during a fundraising event. Throughout the week prior, he made a series of promotional appearances, including visiting with the Mules Freshman Football team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The family still has a hand in the oil and propane business, he said. "We've been here in the art business since 1972," the 82-year-old Vinson said. "Here, we specialize in limited edition prints. "We have a frame shop here so we do lots of custom work," he added. "It's tough to find that in a small town anymore."

A mainstay of downtown for about 80 years, generations of Dexter residents have shopped at Morgan's for furniture needs. "We've outlived all the other furniture stores," joked owner John Agey. "We have good furniture, good prices and friendly service. "I’m a second generation owner here," he added. “Started pushing a broom when I was five. I think when people come in they see our stock, our prices and our service." Agey said he's seen many changes on the face of downtown throughout the years. "There's been a resurgence in the last five years or so," he said. "Many young people have moved here and increased the feel of community. That's when we began to see even more business."
