Poplar Bluff Burglary Arrest

Poplar Bluff – On 10-10-14 at approximately 3:50 pm, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Lester st Poplar Bluff in reference to a Burglary.  A mother was home alone with her three year old son when a white male entered her residence by cutting a screen in a window on the front of her residence.  She armed herself with a golf club and confronted the intruder.  The intruder flourished a knife, yelled, and jumped back out through the window and fled the scene.  

The only item taken during the burglary was a laptop computer.

Later that evening, a locating device installed on the computer indicated it had accessed the internet from a residence in the 1700 block of West Spring st Poplar Bluff.  Officers responded to that location, arrested Douglas Herzog (53, of the 1700 block of West Spring st Poplar Bluff) and recovered the stolen computer. 

During an interview, Douglas Herzog said he purchased the computer from Nick Alcala (39, of the 900 block of Kinzer st Poplar Bluff).  

On 10-11-14 Nick Alcala was arrested and booked in on charges of Burglary-1st degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Felony Stealing; and he was lodged in the Butler County Jail, where he is held on a $250,000.00 bond.
