Goal of 3,000 Signatures in 60 days On Schedule

Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Aug 1, 2011:
In one week’s time, hundreds of registered voters have lent their support to the cause of Open Access to the broadband internet network in Poplar Bluff, MO. According to the Open Access Petition group, the grassroots movement gathering signatures for the campaign, the petition currently has over ten (10) percent of the 3,000 signatures required to place the issue on the ballot. Volunteers are very pleased with this progress, as this confirms the goal of 3,000 signatures in 60 days is on schedule.

To launch the campaign, the Open Access Petition group utilized the United States Postal Service’s “Every Door Direct Mail” service with the help of Minit Print to mail the Open Access Petition to over 8,500 Poplar Bluff residents. The citizens volunteering for this campaign are urging registered voters in Poplar Bluff’s wards 1 through 5 to Sign, Stamp & Send the petition or take it to one of several drop-off locations including Adkins Chiropractic, The Bread Co., The Wine Rack / Java Stop, SEMO.net, The Imaging Center of Poplar Bluff Medical Partners, Primetime Rentals, and the UPS Store.

Open Access Petition advocate, Brian Becker, who also owns SEMO.net, stated “We felt that our efforts would be slow during the first 20 days before hitting its stride, but just 7 days in we’ve hit ten percent of our total needed. Many people who recieved our petition have said they are collecting signatures before returning it.”

The Open Access Petition group would also like to remind all citizens that registering to vote is easy. Simply go to www.OpenAccessPetition.org and click the “Rock The Vote” banner. The user will be lead through a series of questions to complete their voter registration and then prompted to print & sign. The printed registration can be mailed or dropped off at the Butler County Courthouse. The group has registered four new voters in their first week of the petition drive.

Any Missouri registered voter may check their voter registration status by pointing their browser to www.sos.mo.gov/elections/VoterLookup/. All registered voters in Poplar Bluff are encouraged by volunteers to sign the Open Access Petition and be counted among the many concerned citizens who support the freedom of choice when it comes to the local City Cable network.
