PBPD - Fraud Alert

Jan 05, 2015

The Poplar Bluff Police Department has recently received several fraud complaints which involve a suspect trying to coerce the victim into paying money for a (nonexistent) bond.

In the most recent complaints, the suspect identified himself as “Deputy Jeff Rolland with Butler County”; and threatened to arrest the victims if they did not pay an $800.00 bond using prepaid credit cards.

In previous complaints, a suspect posed as a member of the victim’s family; said they had been arrested; and asked the victim to pay their bond using a prepaid credit card.

Law Enforcement Agencies do not collect bond money over the phone.  Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to hang up and immediately call their local law enforcement agency.
