Aug 28, 2014

Three Rivers College will hold the first annual “Three Rivers Raider Rodeo” on October 2-4 at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. each night, with the rodeo beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and under.

“The Three Rivers Rodeo Team has been doing incredibly well at competitions around the country, and we felt like this was just the next step in the team’s development,” said Cale Emmett, coach of the Rodeo Team. “Now they get the chance to show off their skills at home, and bring competitors in from around the country to see Southeast Missouri and Three Rivers.”

The rodeo will include bull riding, barrel racing, bronco riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, and various roping competitions. Friday, October 3rdwill also be a “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night, to focus awareness on breast cancer. A limited number of pink Raider Rodeo t-shirts will be on sale October 2-3.

“We’re expecting that the rodeo is going to be really huge, a real draw for our region,” said Emmett. “We’re going to be pulling in about 400 competitors, plus their coaches, families, and more. It’s not just going to be a great thing for Three Rivers, but for the local economy.”

The event is National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association-sanctioned, and will feature top competitors from 16 college rodeo teams in the Association’s Ozark Region. Participating colleges include Arkansas State University, North Carolina State University, Michigan State University, and the University of Tennessee at Martin and Knoxville, as well as Three Rivers College. The teams will be competing for top honors at the rodeo, regional ranking, and points to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo later in the year.

Tickets will be sold at the Black River Coliseum, Three Rivers College’s Office of Financial Services and The College Store on its Poplar Bluff campus, and at the door.
