Williamsville's Labor Day Weekend Celebration
There is nothing more American than a small town Labor Day celebration.
The 30th Annual Williamsville/Black River Fire Department Picnic will embody everything people think of when thinking of a small town, All-American event.
According to Gene Bilbrey, chairman of the picnic committee, this year’s event will have everything from a town parade, to favorite foods, to lots of entertainment.
Friday Evening
Friday’s musical entertainment will begin at 5 p.m., with Morgan Kirkman of Ellsinore. Also featured Friday evening will be Jordan Rayfield of Piedmont; Brandi Shearrer and Brooke Cathey of Williamsville; Brian Kirkman of Ellsinore; BreAnna (Bearden) Conner and McKenzie Miller of Williamsville; Heartland Quartet of Ellsinore; Richmond Quartet of Wappapello; and then square dancing at 9 p.m.
Saturday
Lineup for Saturday’s parade begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Fire House. The parade begins at 10 a.m. It will feature marching bands, floats, covered wagons, clowns, antique cars and even the Poplar Bluff Shriners’ Motor Club.
Saturday’s musical entertainment includes Whitney Plunkett of Williamsville at 11 a.m. Following will be Kin Thurman of Poplar Bluff; Brandon Bates of Wappapello; The Gipsons of Marquand; Chuck Bazzell of Poplar Bluff; Buzzard Run of Naylor; Country Fire Cloggers from Ellsinore at 3:30 p.m. More entertainers include Mary Beth Byrd of Blytheville, Ark.; Back Street Band of Poplar Bluff; Otter Creek Band of Williamsville; and Charley Barker and Route 66 Band of Qulin. Square dancing will begin at 6:45 and 8:45 p.m.
Providing a sound system throughout the day and evening will be Howard Deckelman.
Food vendors include Tasty BBQ and Hyde’s American catfish plates, along with many other picnic favorites.
No alcohol is allowed on the grounds which makes for a safe family celebration of the Labor Day holiday.
