  •   The Patrons of the Arts Society continues its 2016-2017 season with “Suthyrn Fryd Frynds,” a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band out of Branson, on Thursday, October 13 at 7 p.m. in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center in Poplar Bluff. Direct from the Tribute Theater in Branson, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Suthyrn Fryd Frynds is a tribute show that highlights the patriarchs of Southern Rock music. You’ll hear the hits of Lynyrd Skynyrd, including Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama, as well as great songs from their musical counterparts like ZZ Top, Allman Brothers, Dr. Hook, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker Band, and Charlie Daniels.   • More than 700 Poplar Bluff R-I certified and classified employees attended the district’s back-to-school convocation on Monday, Aug. 29, at the Black River Coliseum. In his first state-of-the-schools address, Superintendent Scott Dill, who comes by way of Houston, Mo., called the community’s investment in its infrastructure and school facilities “astounding” and “unheard of.” Besides the great strides the district is making, part of Dill’s decision in accepting the position to succeed Chris Hon in July, he noted, was to provide more opportunities for his own daughters, Caroline and Maura, who are enrolled at the new High School and Middle School. “To me this [job] is personal.   • During the month of July alone, there are more than 100 "World Series" going on in various age groups across the United States. The term "World Series" seems to have lost its meaning from overuse, except when it comes to Little League, Cal Ripkin and Babe Ruth organizations. What sets these organizations apart is that they pay all of the travel, lodging and meal expense for the teams who qualify for the World Series. This year, the Sr Babe Ruth World Series is held in Ephrata, Washington. The plane tickets alone from St Louis to Spokane cost over $500 per person. All in all, it's estimated that by the end of the World Series, Babe Ruth organization will spend upwards of $15,000 on

  • The Dexter Police Department would like to express some safety concerns regarding the new game being played by so many known as Pokemon Go. Our department has received complaints from numerous citizens regarding the Pokemon Go players with safety concerns. Complaints have stemmed from players trespassing on private property during game play, players walking out in front of moving motor vehicles not paying attention to their surroundings while playing the game along with other complaints. The Dexter Police Department worked a motor vehicle accident on 07/14/2016 involving a Pokemon Go player being dragged by a motor vehicle subsequently being transported by EMS to a local hospital for their injuries.     Three Rivers College has released its Dean’s List for the Spring 2016 semester. The honor is awarded to students taking 12 or more credit hours in a semester who achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Dean’s List honors are also used at graduation to help determine eligibility for honors or highest honors.
