The Poplar Bluff Police Department is investigating a home invasion robbery and shooting which occurred at a residence in the 1600 block of Sanders st in Poplar Bluff on 2/1.  Based upon witness statements and evidence found at the scene, the suspects were apparently trying to steal a large quantity of marijuana. On 02-01-15 at approximately 4:49 pm, Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were dispatched to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in reference to a patient being treated for a gunshot wound.   Christopher Gregory (27 years old, of the 1600 block of Sanders st Poplar Bluff) was later transferred to Barnes Hospital in St Louis for treatment of his injuries. Fourth grader Ethan Hudlow of Oak Grove Elementary School received media attention last week when news broke that the 9-year-old was registering to vie in a World Cube Association sanctioned Rubik’s Cube competition April 25 in Texas. The Junior High Cheerleaders won the National Cheerleaders Association High School Open National Championship in the large intermediate division on Sunday, Jan. 18, in St. Charles. This was another first for Poplar Bluff Schools, according to cheer coach Christy Young. The victory comes on the heels of the Poplar Bluff High School Competition Cheer Squad’s back-to-back state championship. The high schoolers will go on to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7-8, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. Now that the quail season has come to an end in Missouri, one of the former most-popular sports has been put to bed for 10 months. Quail hunting was really a popular activity for quite a while when I was growing up.  I killed most of my quail while rabbit hunting.  Dad had quit keeping a bird dog by the time I was born and the only time I hunted behind a dog for more than one trip was with my bowling partner “Jake” Jacobs.  Jake was the advertising manager at the DAR and had a pointer named Pud.  With my hunting activities we knew where to find a few coveys of quail, but we had very little success.
