Press Release: Conservative Republican Doug Libla Files for 25th District State Senate

Feb 29, 2012

Poplar Bluff businessman Doug Libla filed yesterday to run for the 25th State Senatorial District as a Republican. As a result of term limits, the seat will not have an incumbent on the ballot in August. The 25th State Senate District as proposed in the most recent apportionment consists of Butler, Carter, Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Shannon and Stoddard counties.

Libla, 59, is a rural conservative who is 100% Pro-Life, Pro-Second Amendment, Pro-Agriculture, and is a steadfast believer in limited government. He is not a professional politician; this is the first time he has run for elected office.

“I believe Southeast Missouri families and farmers need a strong advocate for our common conservative values in Jefferson City,” said Libla. “My deep roots in Southern Missouri provide me with the firsthand experience needed to improve the quality of life through educating our children, increasing job training opportunities, and giving farmers the tools they need to expand production without government interference.”

Libla began his business career in Poplar Bluff on June 9, 1971, as owner and operator of Doug’s Sinclair & Tire, at the corner of North Main & Davis Streets. Doug and his brother, David, began a successful partnership in 1977 with a joint business venture that led to the creation of a number of successful companies. The result of their life’s work was creation of Mid Continent Nail Corp., located in the Poplar Bluff Industrial Park.

“Throughout this campaign I will use my lifetime of experience in creating jobs, demonstrating strong leadership, and exemplifying solid work ethic to get Southeast Missouri families back to work and strengthening our communities,” stated Libla.

Doug Libla is committed to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Southern Missouri and is involved in a number of community activities. He serves on the board of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Three Rivers College Endowment Trust, Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Board of Governors, the TAC committee of Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission and is a Past President/Charter Member and current Troop E Director of “THE MASTERS” (Missouri Association of State Troopers Emergency Relief Society). Doug and his wife of 38 years, Elaine, are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others by working with and supporting community and charitable groups. Doug and Elaine are long time members of the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, MO.

I thought he was a Democrat. I’m still happy he is interested in politics and his district. I wish him well. Good luck, Doug! Hang on and enjoy the ride!
