  • Top fundraising students presented a check to St. Jude in the amount of $47,748 on Friday, March 31, during a field trip they were awarded to the children’s research hospital in Memphis. The Poplar Bluff School District has raised a total of $967,924 for the hospital since the campus community first began participating in Math-A-Thon in 1989. If the students reach their all-time goal next school year, R-I will be the first school system ever to donate more than $1 million, according to district coordinator Jenifer Richardson, Oak Grove principal.   • The 24th annual children's theatre drama camp will be held July 25-29 at Three Rivers College. Campers will participate in activities focusing on acting, improvisation, theatre games, creative dramatics, musical theatre and readers theatre. They will show off what they have learned at a performance at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29 at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center in Poplar Bluff. Students entering grades 2-8 are eligible to participate. Theatre instructors Tim Thompson of Three Rivers College and JoNell Seifert, director emeritus of Poplar Bluff High School, will conduct the camp.   • Currently, 4-H is looking for volunteers to lead summer programs from June-August in the following areas: cake decorating, beekeeping, horses, outdoor adventures, veterinary science and woodworking. Although we are looking for volunteers in these areas there is always room for other options!   • Today, at Grace United Methodist Church in St Louis, the Memorial Service for Paul Andrew Kidwell was held. As my lovely wife Toni posted on Facebook, "Brian and I said goodbye to a bosom buddy today. It was the hardest time I've ever had singing through the emotions, and I've sung at many goodbyes. In the midst of the deep grief, though, there were sweet reunions with friends gathered in the majestic sanctuary from another era of all of our lives. We shared a love and respect for Paul."
