• It seems nearly impossible to fathom that someone as brilliant and funny as Robin Williams could be so tortured emotionally that he takes himself out of the human race. Yet, last week, one by one, each of us across the whole globe, fixed our attention on the sad news of this beloved actor’s suicide. Sometimes, a blip of news in the vast sea of information we are bombarded with daily, seems to slap us so hard in the face that we can almost hear the collective groan rippling through space and time. Then we all try our best to reckon with reality. And what a devastating reality Robin Williams’ death reveals - that someone who, by his very nature, brought

I am convinced that the more you use our new webmail service, the more you will find uses for the new calendar feature. The new and improved SEMO.net Webmail is not very compatible with Windows XP's Internet Explorer. Microsoft ended all of their support of Windows XP back in March of this year, Internet Explorer cannot be upgraded on Windows XP past version 7, and the new security measures of our new Webmail are not compatible with Internet Explorer 7. • Washington, D.C. - As of today, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $3.67. In 2009, that same gallon of gas would have cost just $2.35. As the summer sets in, gasoline prices are continuing to rise with the summer temperatures. At a time when our economy is struggling, higher gas prices will put a huge burden on working families trying to make ends meet. The rising cost of gas not only affects Missourians at the pump, it will also drive up the cost of goods and services. This week the House of Representatives took action to help lower the price of gasoline and natural gas for all Americans. I supported H.R. 4899, the Lowering Gasoline

  • NewWave, the new owners of City Cable, converted Whiteley Park into a kids dream. Bouncy houses and blowup slides and rock walls had lines of kids waiting for their turn. According to John Brinker, NewWave General Manager of Missouri/Arkansas, over 300 citizens came out to enjoy an evening of family fun. When asked about the transition, Brinker was pleased with their progress and the NewWave team expects that customers will begin receiving their bills from NewWave by mid-August.

  • In a letter dated June 25, Stephens addressed Dr. Randy Grassham of the college's Board of Trustees, requesting that the board grant his sabbatical request. The sabbatical would take effect immediately and continue through November 30, 2014. “During this period, I will be available as directed by the Board to perform consulting services to the college in matters related to grants, construction, legislative, and/or funding matters,” wrote Stephenson. He further requested that at the end of the sabbatical period, he be released from his obligations under his employment agreement with the Board of Trustees. “I understand we are both legally obligated under this employment agreement, however, I am requesting termination of the agreement by mutual consent,” he further wrote. • Are you an amateur photographer? SEMO.net is building a team of photographers for a project we are working on. We are not looking for professional photographers with side businesses, we are talking about amateurs who love photography and enjoy trying to catch that perfect shot and would love to have their work appear online for the area to see. If you are interested then please contact me at brian@semo.net and send me links to some of your favorite shots. Don't overwhelm me with 50, narrow it down to less than 10 photos. It's okay if you just send me one or two. Just so it allows me to see how good you are with a camera.
