There is no doubt Americans sometimes long for a simpler time. Almost everyone longs to go back to Mayberry, where spring evenings are spent on a front porch amidst the symphonic aroma of flowering trees and the sweet promise of summer. Almost everyone wants to walk through a friendly neighborhood where children are out hunting fireflies at dusk. It is that longing for Americana and simplicity that keeps people coming back year after year to Charleston, MO and its annual Dogwood and Azalea Festival, this year April 16-19. First State Bank & Trust in Sikeston has made a donation to the Three Rivers Endowment Trust. It will fund the purchase of a microphone/sound equipment to be used in the Sikeston Room, which is the FEMA storm shelter that doubles as an exhibit hall/auditorium at the new Three Rivers-Sikeston located at 1400 S. Main. Zach Fayette, vice president at the bank, presented the check to Michelle Reynolds, development officer at the College. “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans,” an event to recognize the veterans of the Vietnam War, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, in the Bess Activity Center at Three Rivers College. The event is an early celebration of Vietnam Veterans Day, which is March 29. It sponsored by Chapter 1056 of Vietnam Veterans of America, an organization with the goals of campaigning on issues important to Vietnam veterans, creating a new identity for this generation of veterans, and improving public perception of Vietnam veterans. This is an opportunity for our community to come together for the long overdue welcome home the Vietnam veterans deserve for their service to our country. Members of Three Rivers College’s Student-Missouri State Teachers Association (S-MSTA) chapter helped raise $1,251 for the Kenny Rogers Telethon during an event held Saturday. S-MSTA is a student organization that helps prepare students for careers as teachers.
