  • It seems nearly impossible to fathom that someone as brilliant and funny as Robin Williams could be so tortured emotionally that he takes himself out of the human race. Yet, last week, one by one, each of us across the whole globe, fixed our attention on the sad news of this beloved actor’s suicide. Sometimes, a blip of news in the vast sea of information we are bombarded with daily, seems to slap us so hard in the face that we can almost hear the collective groan rippling through space and time. Then we all try our best to reckon with reality. And what a devastating reality Robin Williams’ death reveals - that someone who, by his very nature, brought

  • Poplar Bluff Internet, Inc. owned and operated SEMO.net from 1995 until 2012. Brian Becker is founder and majority shareholder of Poplar Bluff Internet, Inc. As I've hinted and casually stated over the course of the last eight months...in their haste, Doug Bagby and Wallace Duncan forgot to exclude their judgment against Poplar Bluff Internet, Inc. when they sold City Cable back on April 1st. The DAR reported, on at least two occasions, that the debt was not a part of the deal citing an email and some quotes by a NewWave representative. But anyone who read the purchase agreement knew the DAR was wrong (which, by the way, appears to be the norm these days). The hearing was held on Thursday

  • If you have kids ages 11 through 19, you probably have a problem come Christmas time. Your kids WANT to give a great present but they haven't saved up enough money to do anything but buy a $10 knick-knack. My family started a tradition of doing Secret Santa among our immediate family. We go to the mall and everyone knows our preset dollar limit (for example $75). During the first few hours, everyone goes around the mall taking photos of

  • POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. – The SEMO Times, a name already familiar to many Southeast Missouri readers, is set to re-launch on July 31 in an effort to provide in-depth news and feature articles with online and print products aimed at filling a gap in news coverage that has existed in the region for years. A launch party to unveil the new web site and first edition of the new newspaper has been set for 6 p.m., July 31 at Las Margaritas in Poplar Bluff. The announcement comes on the heels of the completion of a merger between the SEMO Times, which is owned and published by former Poplar Bluff Mayor Scott Faughn, and SEMO.net, operated by C.E.O Brian Becker.
