  • What if I told you your government was about to triple your monthly electric bill? President Obama’s so called “Clean Power Plan” would have done just that – increasing electric costs and forcing coal plants in Missouri to close. Missouri residents get 83 percent of their energy from coal-fired power plants. If implemented, this rule would have increased the cost of electricity and made it unaffordable for many residents in the state. Fortunately, President Trump took major steps this week to eliminate the Clean Power Plan and stop the EPA’s costly rules for energy production. This will help prevent skyrocketing utility rates, ensure coal plants stay open and keep jobs in Missouri. The Clean Power Plan is just the latest

  • Last weekend, President Trump opened up about his suspicion that his campaign was wire tapped by the Obama White House during the 2016 Presidential election. While some in the media found this outlandish, the reality is that a long track record by the Obama White House of using whatever means necessary to discredit those who opposed him leaves President Trump justified in believing that individuals who worked on his campaign and potentially himself were subjected to eavesdropping. In the coming months, the U.S. House Intelligence Committee will be conducting a full investigation on interference during the 2016 election – interference from foreign countries as well as executive overreach and manipulation by the Obama White House. In the meantime, what we

  • Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Jason Smith (MO-08) led a bipartisan letter along with over 60 of his colleagues to President Trump urging him to revoke a “midnight rule” from the Obama Administration that would ban lead ammunition and fishing tackle from being used on any public lands. On January 19, 2017, the last full day of the Obama Administration, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) issued a director’s order phasing out the use of traditional lead ammunition and tackle on federal lands. Upon sending the letter, Smith commented, “This last minute rule issued by the Obama White House is simply unacceptable. This is exactly the type of regulatory red tape which has been thrown up by unelected bureaucrats

  • It is no secret that more than six years into office President Obama continues to push a radical anti-gun agenda and attempt to bypass the law-making authority of Congress. We saw this recently in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) proposal to restrict the manufacture and sale of ammunition commonly used by sportsman and hunters. Many of you shared in my outrage for the proposed ban and together we made our voices heard. This week, the ATF dropped its proposed ban, tweeting “You spoke, we listened.” This fight to protect the Second Amendment was not easily won. In a bipartisan letter from 239 members of Congress, my colleagues and I wrote the ATF strongly voicing our opposition.

  • One of the first bills the new Congress took up this week was the Keystone XL Pipeline. This infrastructure project is a pipeline to move oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. The project will add more than 40,000 jobs to the workforce and lower energy costs for all Americans. There is strong bipartisan support; however, President Obama has threatened to veto the project when it comes across his desk. The president is sending a clear message to America - he does not want to work with Congress or for you. He would rather join with extremist environmental groups and push his own agenda rather than yours. It is unfair to you, and it is totally irresponsible. These environmental
