Grammy Award Winning artist Suzy Bogguss is coming to Poplar Bluff’s Historic Rodgers Theatre on Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m., and already the tickets are selling well. POPLAR BLUFF - Last April's City elections gave rise to a "new" group of largely dethroned leaders whose supporters coalesced to form a public group known as "Citizens For Poplar Bluff's Future," a group who pressed for "transparency" and "financial responsibility," among other things (ironically, two of the very criteria that voters emphatically embraced in removing long-time incumbents and ultimately, their leader, former City Manager Doug Bagby). The Poplar Bluff City Council welcomed new City Manager Heath Kaplan at the conclusion of his first day on the job, and also took care of a number of pieces of city business Monday evening. As it happened, his first day on the job was also Kaplan's birthday. After being serenaded with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” by the council members and crowd at the meeting, Kaplan, thanked the citizens of Poplar Bluff for his warm reception. Mayor Angela Pearson greeted Kaplan, and also thanked interim City Manager Mark Massingham for his service to the community. Poplar Bluff, Mo - In November 2010, Shelby Road opened and provided a much need thoroughfare from Westwood Blvd to PP Highway. The new road also provided much-needed access to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. But in May of this year, a section of the road from Westwood Blvd to Oak Grove road was completely closed by the developers of Eight Points and Southern Bank’s new bank building. The 3-year old Shelby Road has been completely destroyed from the monster land movers passing across and back; moving dirt from the Eight Points side (east side) of Shelby Road to the Southern Bank side (west side).
