• On 01-24-15 at approximately 11:15 am, a female victim came to the Poplar Bluff Police Department to report Jewayne Shaw (her boyfriend) assaulted her and held her against her will, at gunpoint, in their residence in the 900 block of Cherry st overnight.  The victim told Officers when Shaw fell asleep she fled the residence and came to the Police Department. The victim added that Shaw threatened to kill her if she went to the police; and threatened to kill the police if they tried to arrest him.   • I have always been and will always be committed to protecting the life of the unborn and standing for the voiceless. It saddens me that we actually have to fight for something such as the life of a precious unborn child, something that each of our mothers chose for us from the first time they heard our heartbeat on the monitor, to the day we were born.  However, it is encouraging to see so many people standing and joining the fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.   • State Sen. Doug Libla, R-Poplar Bluff, is urging citizens to attend an open hearing of the Missouri Public Service Commission in Dexter, Mo., on Jan. 26, at the Elks Lodge, 325 N. Two Mile Road, to provide testimony on an electric rate case filed by Ameren Missouri. Citizens will be given the opportunity to speak on the proposed rate increase. Last year, Ameren Missouri filed an electric rate case seeking to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $264 million, or 9.65 percent. The filing includes a request to continue its fuel adjustment clause that reflects changes in the cost of fuel used to generate electricity on customers’ bills through a separately-identified surcharge or credit outside a general rate case. “We

  • Poplar Bluff Junior and Senior High teachers participated in the first Technology Camp during collaboration day on Friday, Jan. 16, featuring a series of break-out sessions led by R-I staff emphasizing content, the web, apps, engaging students and classroom management. Published author Julie Smith, an adjunct professor of Webster University and Southern Illinois University, delivered the keynote speech about media literacy. R-I Instructional Technology Facilitators Valerie Ivy and Candace Warren organized the Tech Camp, with assistance from Chief Technology Officer Aaron Badgley. Help Desk teacher Julie Carda and assistant Tony Kirkley, along with their dedicated students at PBHS, were also instrumental in making the event a success.

  • DUNKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT - KENNETT, MO. At approximately 05:17 hours the Dunklin County Communications Center received a 911 call with reference to a disturbance on DD Highway in the Northern part of Dunklin County.  Deputies responded to the scene and found that a disturbance had occurred and during the disturbance an individual was shot.  The disturbance involved two relatives and resulted when a male subject entered the residence with a knife in a threatening manner.   The male subject who resides at the dwelling shot the knife wielding subject.  The gun shot victim was driven to the Campbell ambulance shed where he was pronounced dead by the Dunklin County Coroner James Powell.  The investigation is ongoing with the investigation being
