  • Three Rivers College will hold its bi-annual mass casualty training event on Tuesday, November 24. The training helps prepare students in participating programs for a mass casualty emergency such as a natural disaster or terrorist attack and tests the college’s emergency response plans. The training event will be held at the college’s Poplar Bluff campus, near the Bess Activity Center. Students from several fields of study will participate in the training, including three classes of nursing students, EMT students, and Paramedic students. The training will also receive support from regional medical centers, local ambulance services, law enforcement agencies, and fire departments.   • The Poplar Bluff Police Department is investigating a home invasion robbery and shooting which occurred at a residence in the 1600 block of Sanders st in Poplar Bluff on 2/1.  Based upon witness statements and evidence found at the scene, the suspects were apparently trying to steal a large quantity of marijuana. On 02-01-15 at approximately 4:49 pm, Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were dispatched to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Emergency Room in reference to a patient being treated for a gunshot wound.   Christopher Gregory (27 years old, of the 1600 block of Sanders st Poplar Bluff) was later transferred to Barnes Hospital in St Louis for treatment of his injuries.   • On 01-24-15 at approximately 11:15 am, a female victim came to the Poplar Bluff Police Department to report Jewayne Shaw (her boyfriend) assaulted her and held her against her will, at gunpoint, in their residence in the 900 block of Cherry st overnight.  The victim told Officers when Shaw fell asleep she fled the residence and came to the Police Department. The victim added that Shaw threatened to kill her if she went to the police; and threatened to kill the police if they tried to arrest him. Officer Gerber responded to the scene, but found Jewayne Shaw’s vehicle was not at the residence.   As Officer Gerber secured the scene, Shaw’s vehicle returned.  Upon seeing the patrol unit, Shaw

  • The Poplar Bluff Police Department has recently received several fraud complaints which involve a suspect trying to coerce the victim into paying money for a (nonexistent) bond. In the most recent complaints, the suspect identified himself as “Deputy Jeff Rolland with Butler County”; and threatened to arrest the victims if they did not pay an $800.00 bond using prepaid credit cards. In previous complaints, a suspect posed as a member of the victim’s family; said they had been arrested; and asked the victim to pay their bond using a prepaid credit card. Law Enforcement Agencies do not collect bond money over the phone.  Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to hang up and immediately call their local law
