  • It seems nearly impossible to fathom that someone as brilliant and funny as Robin Williams could be so tortured emotionally that he takes himself out of the human race. Yet, last week, one by one, each of us across the whole globe, fixed our attention on the sad news of this beloved actor’s suicide. Sometimes, a blip of news in the vast sea of information we are bombarded with daily, seems to slap us so hard in the face that we can almost hear the collective groan rippling through space and time. Then we all try our best to reckon with reality. And what a devastating reality Robin Williams’ death reveals - that someone who, by his very nature, brought

  • Are you ready for some down and dirty fun? Hundreds will be doing just that this weekend, as Brick’s Off Road Park hosts the 2015 Trucks Gone Wild event. And they’ll be coming on anything that has wheels. That’s because Trucks Gone Wild isn’t just an event…it’s a way of life for those who are part of the “Mudder Nation”. The ticket price for Friday through Sunday is $40. Scott Brickell of Brick’s Offroad Park admits $40 isn’t cheap, but it will be the most fun $40 could ever get you. The ticket price for Sunday only is $20. Kids 10 and under are admitted free. All who attend must sign waiver forms. “But we’ll have some people arriving earlier

  • It is with great admiration that we, the staff of SEMO TIMES, put forth this issue devoted to the Veterans of the United States of America. In June of 2007, Toni and I traveled to the Coronado Naval Base in San Diego for the retirement ceremony of family friend, Commodore Dennis Schulz. The ceremony was on the deck of the USS Midway. Toni sang the song we wrote, “Duty Calls,” and I sang the “Star Spangled Banner.” What an honor. What an awe-inspiring ceremony. After the ceremony, the first of several parties was held on the carrier lift (basically a huge elevator to bring the aircraft to/from the deck). I was listening to all the stories told of the men

  • POPLAR BLUFF – The crowds are gathering. The engines are revving. The Slough ripples with tons of fresh mud. Brick’s Offroad Park is ready for the drivers and the crowds. The excitement for this year’s event has been building ever since. “Dustin was the first to get through it,” said Jay Brickell. “A lot of drivers took his example, and they think this year they can do it, too.” “It’s possible that more than one driver may make it through,” said Brickell. Because of that possibility, there will be a
