Poplar Bluff, Mo. – In 2012, the City of Poplar Bluff began buying properties at the intersection of Oak Grove Road and Westwood Blvd. As reported by Brian Becker at that time, properties at or around that intersection were going for a premium (see map): #1. $828,000; #2. $789,000; and, #3. $1,000,000. Then the purchasing frenzy came to an abrupt halt when former City Manager Doug Bagby offered only $411,000 to Robert and Robin Whelan for their property (#4). Whelans' property is the second largest property of the four and roughly the same size as the property which sold for $789,000. When the Whelans countered the city’s offer with $900,000, the Bagby cut off negotiations and filed a petition with
Aug 12,Damon Secoy and Terry Shands from East Prairie, MO with some big, blue catfish from Ohio River near Cairo, IL Seasons are subjective. For instance, my 9-year old son has proclaimed Thursday to be the end of summer, because that is when he re-enters public school and we get to attempt to decipher the 4th grade version of every parent's favorite paradoxical enigma, the Common Core curriculum... Officially, the end of summer is on the

I have never given a complete story about my outdoor activities, so as a start of this new writing experience, this is how it all began and developed as my life took several turns along the way as almost everyone’s has. Following after my dad, my first hunting remembrance is of going rabbit hunting after a snowfall when I was probably four years old. I had to walk in dad’s boot prints to keep my footwear from getting wet. That hunt produced some squirrels that a dog, who joined us after we got in the
Aug 12,Dexter, Mo. - Outside of Southeast Missouri a common misconception is that the area is nothing but log homes, farm houses, and fields. There are many beautiful homes in every county of Southeast Missouri that would rival the most beautiful homes in a suburban area. Take, for example, the home at 701 Shelton Drive in Dexter, Mo. This stately 2.5 story home features Georgian architecture, an immaculately maintained lawn, and unique features such as an indoor atrium-style, sun-lit room located in the center of the home. From the minute you walk up the tidy brick walk to the beautiful entrance with a towering palladium window above it, you know this is a home of the highest quality. Constructed in 1991,
