Members of Three Rivers College’s Student-Missouri State Teachers Association (S-MSTA) chapter helped raise $1,251 for the Kenny Rogers Telethon during an event held Saturday. S-MSTA is a student organization that helps prepare students for careers as teachers.
Three Rivers College students Amanda Hendrix and Micaela Griffin have been named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Missouri Academic Team, an honor bestowed on the state’s top community college students. Members of the All-Missouri Academic Team are selected from nominations submitted by each of the state’s community colleges. Each college is allowed two nominees from among its eligible Phi Theta Kappa members, chosen for their outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community. A group of students at Three Rivers College are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to improving degree completion rates among their fellow students, through a “Commit to Completion” drive hosted by the college’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society on March 23-24. Members of Three Rivers’ PTK chapter spent two days gathering signatures from students for a pledge to complete their associate degree. The chapter also created a pledge for faculty, staff, and administrators, reaffirming their commitment to support students on their academic journey. Jessica Sedrick, a Three Rivers student from Piedmont, will advance to the Collegiate DECA national competition after qualifying with a fifth-place finish at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Jefferson City. Sedrick, who is a sophomore in the Business Management program at Three Rivers, will compete in the Hotel and Lodging Management category against qualifying competitors from across the nation. “The competitions are so much fun, and I’m really excited to go to Orlando later this year,” said Sedrick, who has been a member of the Three Rivers DECA chapter since Spring 2014. “I love being a part of DECA, and it feels good to be part of such an active, helpful group.” Sedrick plans to graduate from Three
A ribbon cutting for the new location of Three Rivers-Sikeston will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 20, at the new facility at 1400 S. Main. Following the ribbon cutting, an open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. "We are extremely proud of the new facility,” said Three Rivers-Sikeston Director Missy Marshall. “It is expanding the opportunities for the college to serve the region. It will allow us to educate more students; offer more classes, programs and degrees; increase workforce training; and provide more services to the community.” The new $7 million Three Rivers-Sikeston, which opened for classes in January, is a 36,000-square-foot facility that features 17 classrooms, including three ITV rooms, four computer labs,
