On this July 4th, since others are addressing the patriotic, political, and recreational aspects of the holiday in a major way---I'm going to go with a uniquely American pop-cultural moment I experienced some years ago. Like a hundred, give or take.

Jul 01,The semo.net Surfers took fourth place in the Rivertown Classic II this weekend in Ste Genevieve against a tough field of 9 teams. On Saturday, the team won their second game with an 8 run rally in the fourth inning (final score 12-4). On Sunday, the Surfers took a six run lead in the first inning. Tristen Francisco took to the mound and pitched a nearly flawless game. Francisco was one out away from a no-hitter when the batter pulled a pitch just over the glove of the shortstop. The Surfers went on to win the game 10-1. They lost their final game of the day to the Ste Genevieve Elks, but their performance over the two days earned them

We’re starting to reshape our lives around the new reality of high gas costs, and in the process, benefiting ourselves in ways we had not anticipated back when the panic first hit. Jun 26,A wedding will soon take place in Poplar Bluff, and, not surprisingly, the bride is busy seeing to the arrangements for the couple’s simple gathering for family and friends. The major bits of the ceremony are coming together nicely; but there are things apart from the wedding itself that require thought and action as well. Taking a husband’s surname---when you are already well-established in professional, medical, insurance, government, credit, banking, and bill-paying circles by another name entirely... That would be one of those things.
