Poplar Bluff – The controversy over Council Member Peter Tinsley's comments on Facebook concerning President Barack Obama and Obamacare again bubbled up at Tuesday night's meeting of the Poplar Bluff City Council when Tommy Robinson, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church again appeared before the council. “The last time I was here, I presented a concern about Councilman Peter Tinsley and comments he had made on Facebook. We requested that he apologize for his statements and that he take down the post,” said Robinson. BLOOMFIELD - An accused killer was granted a change of venue recently from Stoddard County and will be tried for first-degree murder in Butler County, court records indicate. Allen Dale "Smurf" McCoy, 40, of 109 Joyce, Bernie was implicated along with his wife Angela "Angie" McCoy, 43, in the 2010 stabbing death of then 67-year-old Aubrey Lee Finch of Bernie. Angela McCoy, through her Jefferson City attorney, Heather Lee Vodnansky, accepted a plea agreement in April 2013 offered by Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver and will serve 85 percent of a 20-year sentence for second-degree murder, court records state. Sep 02,Doniphan, Mo. - Funeral services will be held Friday for a 36-year-old Poplar Bluff man who was killed in a shooting incident at Doniphan early Saturday morning. A visitation and memorial service will be held Friday evening, Sept. 5 for Manuel G. Williams, of Poplar Bluff, and formerly of Grandin, will bet the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Charged with first degree murder in the incident is Michael L. Futrell, 56, of Doniphan. Futrell is additionally charged with armed criminal action and unlawful use of a loaded firearm, also both felony charges. Sep 02,New Madrid, Mo. - Officials who represent the region's largest employer today announced layoffs that will affect 125 to 200 area workers. Noranda President and Chief Executive Officer Layle K. "Kip" Smith said job cuts are related directly to a decision by the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) to deny competitive power rates to the New Madrid smelter. Layoffs are expected to come in phases during the next six months, Smith told a crowd of employees, dignitaries and press. Those cuts will reach across all sectors of the company's staff, including both administrative and plant personnel, he said. Police reports Friday indicate phony bills popped up at several locations in Dexter, including Thursday at 1608 W. Business 60; 819 W. Business 60; and 1603 W. Business 60. Saturday police reported fake currency passed Friday at 707 W. Specialty in the city. These events are being investigated by the department's Criminal Investigations Division, police said Saturday.
