The American Red Cross-Southeast Missouri Chapter responded to a fire in the 800th block of D Street in Poplar Bluff on Sunday. The Red Cross with the assistance of the Poplar Bluff fire Department has been working to meet the needs of the family during this tragedy. “We’re deeply saddened and heartbroken for this family that was impacted by this fire,” said Sara Gerau, Executive Director of the Southeast MO Chapter. “As we continue to help them, we urge everyone to take steps to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their home.” HOME FIRE SAFETY: There are several things people can do to protect themselves and their loved ones from fires. CAPE GIRARDEAU – Kate Struttman joins the disaster services department in Cape Girardeau as the new program manager. In her new position, Kate will oversee disaster program services for 13 counties in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. “I have been involved with the American Red Cross as a volunteer for years, and I am excited to continue to serve in a different capacity”, stated Struttman. Struttman was born and raised in Jefferson City, Missouri. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College. She has worked in the non-profit world for several years in many different capacities. SOUTHEAST MISSOURI — Sara Gerau has been named the Executive Director for the Southeast Missouri Chapter as the American Red Cross realigns boundaries within the state to most efficiently meet its mission goals. The appointment is effective November 1st. “I am excited to lead our team here in southeast Missouri and look forward to continuing my service to the communities we serve,” Gerau said. The Red Cross changes will result in increased assistance to people depending on the organization after a disaster. Some consolidation of regions and chapters is under way in an effort to achieve the Red Cross mission more robustly and consistently across a wider area.
