Dec 12,Top fundraising students presented a check to St. Jude in the amount of $47,748 on Friday, March 31, during a field trip they were awarded to the children’s research hospital in Memphis. The Poplar Bluff School District has raised a total of $967,924 for the hospital since the campus community first began participating in Math-A-Thon in 1989. If the students reach their all-time goal next school year, R-I will be the first school system ever to donate more than $1 million, according to district coordinator Jenifer Richardson, Oak Grove principal. Apr 11,The Poplar Bluff High School AP physics class is competing regionally in a MoDOT-sponsored model bridge building contest for a potential $10,000 civil engineering scholarship to a heartland university. Students were supplied 15 pieces of balsa wood, a bottle of glue and some string, then given four weeks to create a bridge design of their choosing between 16-20 inches long and 2-9 inches wide, with the ability to hold at least 7 pounds. The resulting projects will be judged based on structural efficiency on Thursday, Nov. 19, in Cape Girardeau. Nov 05,A trio of Poplar Bluff High School students won $50 apiece on Wednesday, Aug. 19, through the Get Schooled “spread cheer” campaign under the national Graduate for Mas program, sponsored by the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens. Participants were asked what they would do with $50 to spread cheer throughout their school or community. Aug 26,Earlier this month the Ozark Federal Credit Union purchased 150 Neverland-themed T-shirts for the Poplar Bluff High School Sho-Me Band to be worn this season. Sho-Me Band Booster Club President Shelly Batton initially reached out to credit union officials, who said they were more than happy to oblige.
