• Poplar Bluff - On 10-10-14 at approximately 3:50 pm, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Lester st Poplar Bluff in reference to a Burglary.  A mother was home alone with her three year old son when a white male entered her residence by cutting a screen in a window on the front of her residence.  She armed herself with a golf club and confronted the intruder.  The intruder flourished a knife, yelled, and jumped back out through the window and fled the scene.   The only item taken during the burglary was a laptop computer.   • Poplar Bluff - On 10/10 at approximately 4:15 pm the Poplar Bluff Police Department received a shoplifting complaint from an employee at the Dollar General Store located in the 2300 block of Cheshire Blvd Poplar Bluff.  According to the report, a white male concealed merchandise valued at $7.85 on his person; then left the store without paying for it.  Still images taken from the surveillance video footage were attached to this email.  We would appreciate any help your readers/viewers can provide in identifying and/or locating this suspect.  Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is asked to contact Officer Brandon Hopper at 573-785-5776.

  • Press Release - On 9/30 at approximately 11:26 am employees at Minit Mart convenience store (located in the 3900 block of US Hwy 67) reported a gas drive off involving a white Chrysler mini van. A few minutes later, Poplar Bluff Animal Control Officer Mark Hastings saw the van driving south on US Business Hwy 67 in Poplar Bluff, and reported its location and direction of travel to the Poplar Bluff Police Department. At 11:34 am Poplar Bluff Sgt Chuck Harris attempted to execute a traffic stop on the vehicle as it turned south on Hwy 53 from US Business Hwy 67; but the driver accelerated in an effort to escape.   • POPLAR BLUFF - Almost $20,000 was raised Friday night at Poplar Bluff’s Relay For Life hosted at the Black River Coliseum. Shanna Gilberto, Relay for Life Specialist, said about 54 Butler County cancer survivors participated in this year’s event, with many attending the annual Cancer Survivor’s Dinner the evening before. Ten teams raised money throughout the year, and several area businesses also made donations to the effort. “The unique thing about this event is that 100 percent of the proceeds actually goes to the American Cancer Society in funding its mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing the suffering that comes from cancer. The money goes to research, education, advocacy, and service,”

  • Doniphan, Mo. - Funeral services will be held Friday for a 36-year-old Poplar Bluff man who was killed in a shooting incident at Doniphan early Saturday morning. A visitation and memorial service will be held Friday evening, Sept. 5 for Manuel G. Williams, of Poplar Bluff, and formerly of Grandin, will bet the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Charged with first degree murder in the incident is Michael L. Futrell, 56, of Doniphan. Futrell is additionally charged with armed criminal action and unlawful use of a loaded firearm, also both felony charges.
