The Commencement ceremony for Three Rivers College will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, at the Black River Coliseum. “Commencement is our college’s most important event of the year,” said Three Rivers President Dr. Wesley Payne. “We are proud this year that the Commencement speaker is successful Three Rivers alumnus Larry DeWitt.” Larry DeWitt of Sikeston is the inventor of a permeable weed barrier fabric that changed the professional landscaping industry and developed into a $40 million company. DeWitt graduated from Three Rivers in 1971, then went on to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University in 1973. The Libla family finalized a seven figure donation to the Three Rivers Endowment Trust during a signing event held at Three Rivers College on Monday, May 8. In return, the college announced that institution’s proposed athletics building would be named the “Libla Family Sports Complex.” “We’re proud to help Three Rivers College launch this endeavor, and this is part of our commitment to giving back to the community as much as we can,” said David Libla. “By having this project named for the Libla family, it serves as a remembrance of our parents, and hopefully inspires our children and grandchildren to continue giving back to this community which has given so much to us.” Attending the signing ceremony were
May 12,Three Rivers College will hold its bi-annual mass casualty training event on Tuesday, May 5. The training helps prepare students in participating programs be prepared for a mass casualty emergency such as a natural disaster or terrorist attack, and tests the college’s emergency response plans. The training event will be held at the college’s Nursing and Allied Health building on Pine Street in Poplar Bluff. Students from several fields of study will participate in the training, including three classes of nursing students, EMT students, and Paramedic students. The training will also receive support from Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Black River Medical Center, local ambulance services, law enforcement agencies, and fire departments. The festival will feature choirs and singers from across the region.
