WASHINGTON – Dubbed her "Claire on Campus" tour, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill is launching a series of discussions at colleges and universities across Missouri next week to talk directly with students, educators, advocates, and law enforcement on ways to combat sexual violence on campuses. McCaskill will also use the events to collect feedback on her bipartisan legislation to protect and empower students, and strengthen accountability and transparency for institutions. McCaskill will travel to schools in cities including St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Rolla, Columbia, Kirksville, Maryville, St. Joseph, Warrensburg, Springfield, and Kansas City. The Poplar Bluff Fire Department recently visited the culinary arts class at the Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center to teach fire safety in the event of an emergency in the kitchen.

Members of the Poplar Bluff High School Teenage Republicans Club (TARS) attended the Butler County Republican Central Committee’s annual Reagan Days on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Aad Grotto. During the ‘Bringing Back Old Glory’-themed event, students had the chance to visit with national, state and local GOP leaders, including: U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, Mo. Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, state Sen. Doug Libla, state Reps. Steve Cookson and Todd Richardson, and Butler County Collector candidate Emily Parks.    

Three Rivers College has been awarded a $660,000 "MoSTEMWINS" grant from the Department of Labor aimed at expanding partnerships between local employers and the college to provide job training. The grant was obtained in partnership with 2-year institutions across the state through a consortium headed by the Missouri Community College Association and the State Technical College of Missouri. Three Rivers will use the funding to purchase assessment and training equipment for mechanical and electrical skills, programmable logic and computer numeric controllers, and process control technology.  The new equipment will be integrated into the college's Industrial Technology programs, as well as used to enhance the Advanced Manufacturing programs created with part of a $2.75 million Department of Labor grant the college
