It seems nearly impossible to fathom that someone as brilliant and funny as Robin Williams could be so tortured emotionally that he takes himself out of the human race. Yet, last week, one by one, each of us across the whole globe, fixed our attention on the sad news of this beloved actor’s suicide. Sometimes, a blip of news in the vast sea of information we are bombarded with daily, seems to slap us so hard in the face that we can almost hear the collective groan rippling through space and time. Then we all try our best to reckon with reality. And what a devastating reality Robin Williams’ death reveals - that someone who, by his very nature, brought

Dec 12,What if I told you your government was about to triple your monthly electric bill? President Obama’s so called “Clean Power Plan” would have done just that – increasing electric costs and forcing coal plants in Missouri to close. Missouri residents get 83 percent of their energy from coal-fired power plants. If implemented, this rule would have increased the cost of electricity and made it unaffordable for many residents in the state. Fortunately, President Trump took major steps this week to eliminate the Clean Power Plan and stop the EPA’s costly rules for energy production. This will help prevent skyrocketing utility rates, ensure coal plants stay open and keep jobs in Missouri. The Clean Power Plan is just the latest
Mar 31,Last weekend, President Trump opened up about his suspicion that his campaign was wire tapped by the Obama White House during the 2016 Presidential election. While some in the media found this outlandish, the reality is that a long track record by the Obama White House of using whatever means necessary to discredit those who opposed him leaves President Trump justified in believing that individuals who worked on his campaign and potentially himself were subjected to eavesdropping. In the coming months, the U.S. House Intelligence Committee will be conducting a full investigation on interference during the 2016 election – interference from foreign countries as well as executive overreach and manipulation by the Obama White House. In the meantime, what we
Mar 11,Brian White is one of those guys who just likes creating things. He also really enjoys bringing people together. And he enjoys nice restaurants. So he decided to combine all those loves into one project: a new restaurant that would be different than anything Poplar Bluff has ever known. That is what Frontier is all about. It really is a new frontier for Poplar Bluff. The restaurant represents a new birth for downtown Poplar Bluff, and is located at 506 Vine Street, next to Black River Art Gallery. And as Brian White and his partner in this venture, Daniel Kingree, explain, this is a project that was meant to be. “It has just been amazing the way it has all
Jun 11,Are you ready for some down and dirty fun? Hundreds will be doing just that this weekend, as Brick’s Off Road Park hosts the 2015 Trucks Gone Wild event. And they’ll be coming on anything that has wheels. That’s because Trucks Gone Wild isn’t just an event…it’s a way of life for those who are part of the “Mudder Nation”. The ticket price for Friday through Sunday is $40. Scott Brickell of Brick’s Offroad Park admits $40 isn’t cheap, but it will be the most fun $40 could ever get you. The ticket price for Sunday only is $20. Kids 10 and under are admitted free. All who attend must sign waiver forms. “But we’ll have some people arriving earlier
Jun 05,It’s hard to beat a combination of great food and a great cause. The American Legion BBQ Cook-Off in Sikeston scheduled for May 30 promises to be just that. Jimmy Cantrell, one of the organizers of the event, notes this is the third year for the competition, and it will be held rain or shine. “This event has just grown bigger every year,” said Cantrell. Part of the reason for the growth is the BBQ, but a big part of the reason is the cause. The entire weekend of events raises money for the Bloomfield, MO Veterans Cemetery. “A lot of people have the misconception that the cemetery is funded 100 percent by federal and state funds,” explained Cantrell. “That
