With most hunting seasons closed, there isn’t too much outdoor hunting going on except for rabbits, squirrels and light geese. I have not heard of much activity with geese but there has been a tremendous amount of them flying overhead the last 10 days or more. Last Saturday, in particular, our dog stayed on the tailgate of our old pickup and kept her eyes on the sky. The birds were so high I couldn’t see them but there was an occasional honk that was carried to me on the wind so they were in the air. With walleye fishing and the hardy winter crappie anglers fighting the wind and cold, there is very little fishing activity on most days. The

Last week at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., President Obama made insensitive remarks about Christianity that deeply disappointed me and many other Christians across the nation. While rightly criticizing the atrocious violence by the Islamic State, the president wrongly compared this behavior to the Christian faith to make a political point. The golden opportunity for us weekend warriors came Saturday morning, before the wind gusts exceeded the speed limit on most city streets. Thanks to the wonders of social media and my vast array of friends, I was able to see monster crappie coming from every body of water between Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Erie! Reelfoot Lake is turning out some slabs in the shallow,

Yes, spring could be quite a distance away. The jonquils have started breaking their way through the cover of leaves and grass. The snow crocus hasn’t made an appearance yet and snow could be in the forest for the coming week. So far our snows have been the kind I like, just enough to cover the ground and make driving a little treacherous on some roads and highways and most of it melted away in short order. I visited my sister’s house off Township Line Road Friday. She wasn’t home,
