As we work to stop the spread of Ebola, I have urged the Obama administration to do everything in its power to help protect the American people from this deadly virus. To date, over 9,000 people have contracted Ebola worldwide and more than 4,500 have died. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did not properly prepare hospitals for incoming cases of Ebola, and I worry hospitals are still not prepared to handle an epidemic in this country. Only after two of our medical professionals were infected did the CDC strengthen the Ebola protection guidelines for our healthcare workers. The family still has a hand in the oil and propane business, he said. "We've been here in the art business since 1972," the 82-year-old Vinson said. "Here, we specialize in limited edition prints. "We have a frame shop here so we do lots of custom work," he added. "It's tough to find that in a small town anymore."

A mainstay of downtown for about 80 years, generations of Dexter residents have shopped at Morgan's for furniture needs. "We've outlived all the other furniture stores," joked owner John Agey. "We have good furniture, good prices and friendly service. "I’m a second generation owner here," he added. “Started pushing a broom when I was five. I think when people come in they see our stock, our prices and our service." Agey said he's seen many changes on the face of downtown throughout the years. "There's been a resurgence in the last five years or so," he said. "Many young people have moved here and increased the feel of community. That's when we began to see even more business."

POPLAR BLUFF – If the cold, blustery winds that blew through downtown Poplar Bluff Saturday kept you away from the Iron Horse Festival a few weeks ago, you’ll have a second chance to enjoy downtown fall festivities at the Iron Mountain Market’s Fall Festival to be held Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Historic Train Depot. The event will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizer Rhonda Belcher says she is hoping for perfect weather for the event because there is so much for people to enjoy. “We have a lot of vendors signed up, and more are added to our list every day,” said Belcher.  She says the number of vendors signed up are beyond last year’s numbers already. The ladies from N'Style Galleria and Salon At the same location for the last several years, visitors to N’Style Galleria might recognize the boutique by the tell-tale mural painted on the outside of the building. Or perhaps by the former moniker Lois' House of Fashions. Owner Pam Garner was there for the last 12 years and says a recent remodeling offered rebirth to the store, and to business. "The new stores opening here helped a lot," she admitted. "The Loft, The French Market, The Metro, all helped to bolster all the businesses here."
