  • It seems nearly impossible to fathom that someone as brilliant and funny as Robin Williams could be so tortured emotionally that he takes himself out of the human race. Yet, last week, one by one, each of us across the whole globe, fixed our attention on the sad news of this beloved actor’s suicide. Sometimes, a blip of news in the vast sea of information we are bombarded with daily, seems to slap us so hard in the face that we can almost hear the collective groan rippling through space and time. Then we all try our best to reckon with reality. And what a devastating reality Robin Williams’ death reveals - that someone who, by his very nature, brought

  • It was a nail-biter at Brick’s Offroad Park as 15 Big Trucks competed for the $10,000 “Winner Takes All” Prize in the Mud Truck Challenge. Winning the prize at the very last minute was Jonnie Manees of Dudley, MO, who made it through the infamous Brick’s Slough in just 4 minutes and 56 seconds. In his truck “Strictly Business.” Manees was the very last driver of the day to churn his way through the slough. It was an exciting win, coming after Ron Hoppe had managed to get through the slough twice in both trucks he had brought to the event, but his times could not beat Manees’. Ron Hoppe had gotten through it first in 14 minutes and 47

  • POPLAR BLUFF – The crowds are gathering. The engines are revving. The Slough ripples with tons of fresh mud. Brick’s Offroad Park is ready for the drivers and the crowds. For years, not a single driver got through The Slough. But last year when Dustin McCutcheon got through it and claimed the $10,000 prize, he showed it could be done. The excitement for this year’s event has been building ever since. “Dustin was the first to get through it,” said Jay Brickell. “A lot of drivers took his example, and they think this year they can do it, too.” “It’s possible that more than one driver may make it through,” said Brickell. Because of that possibility, there will be a

That’s exactly what Dustin McCutcheon of Marquand, Mo., intends to do September 26-28 when he brings his truck back to Brick’s Offroad Park for their Mud Truck Challenge. Named “Dirty Hooker,” he has become the crowd favorite having become the first truck to ever make it through Brick’s world famous mud slough. Last year,

  • It takes a special breed of person to run a jet sprint boat at speeds up to 100 mph in a narrow channel in depths of water less than two feet, with 22 directional changes. “Yes,” there will be crashes,” says Peggy Castillo, the wife and former navigator of her husband and sprint boat driver Juan. “The only question is how bad will it be?” Within minutes of her explanation of the sport, one of the boats didn't make a sharp turn, hit a bank, and flipped, landing upside down in the water. Crew members rushed to the boat to get it upright, and to unstrap the driver and navigator. The driver appeared to possibly be hurt. An ambulance backed

  • Pictured left to right are Charlie Drysdale of CAD Satellite, Shane Andrews, driver, and Michael Llewelyn, navigator, of Boat #17 It takes a lot of people to make an event like the Jet Sprint World Series held at Brick's Offroad Park happen. This wasn't just a local event. It was an international event. Most of the racers were from outside of the United States, like Australia and New Zealand, where Jet Sprint racing had its beginnings. It is such a popular sport there that the organizers desperately needed someone to provide a satellite feed that could take the event back to Australia and New Zealand. “That's where we come in,” explained Charlie Drysdale, owner of CAD Satellite Service, LLC.
