American government instructor Mitch Davis moderated the event and senior Stephanie Hobbs, the president of the Teenage Republicans, served as timekeeper. Poplar Bluff High School juniors Chase Burch, Nikkia Hickman and Stephanie Hobbs were awarded Monday, Dec. 15, by VFW Post 6477 on South Broadway for their winning essays in the Voice of Democracy contest. Hickman was also named a district winner. This year’s theme was why veterans are important to our nation’s history and future.   • Poplar Bluff - The Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club has selected Poplar Bluff High School Tennis star Stephanie Hobbs and Mules Football standout Steven Haley as the September Athletes of the Month. Haley, a junior, completed nine games with 113 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and three sacks. His cumulative GPA is 11.036 weighted.
