• Three Rivers College has announced that Kathy Ballard will serve as Director of its Center at Kennett. Ballard, who was the college's Coordinator of Disability Services, is replacing Ann Matthews, who was appointed as Dean of Student Services in July. "This is a great opportunity to serve students of the Southeast Missouri bootheel," said Ballard. "Transitioning from the Poplar Bluff campus to an off-campus center is challenging but exciting. I'm getting to see the different roles of students taking classes close to home." Ballard has been employed at Three Rivers since 1998.   • Poplar Bluff, Mo. - The Poplar Bluff City Council voted 5-2 to approve a one-year contract for City Manager with Heath Kaplan this evening. On Wednesday of last week, at a special session of the city council, members approved 7-0 to hire Mr. Kaplan.  On Friday, the city issued a press release introducing their new city manager. Tonight's vote was whether to issue Kaplan a one-year contract laying out the duties, salary, termination procedures, benefits and allowances. Council members Betty Absheer and Ed Degaris voted no. Mayor Pearson, Mayor Pro Tem Rushin, along with councilmen Brannum, Tinsley and Johson voted yes for the contract.   • On 08-03-14 at 9:07 pm Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to the parking lot at Hastings (900 Block of North Westwood Blvd in Poplar Bluff) in reference to a robbery complaint. A 17 year old female victim reported that she was riding in a vehicle with Terrance Fields (19 years old, of the 1300 block of North 10th st Poplar Bluff Missouri), Demetri Rodgers (19 years old, of the 1500 block of Dawn st in Fayetteville Arkansas), and Steven Moore (23 years old, of the 700 block of County Road 605 in Poplar Bluff Missouri).
