Three Rivers College will hold its bi-annual mass casualty training event on Tuesday, November 24. The training helps prepare students in participating programs for a mass casualty emergency such as a natural disaster or terrorist attack and tests the college’s emergency response plans. The training event will be held at the college’s Poplar Bluff campus, near the Bess Activity Center. Students from several fields of study will participate in the training, including three classes of nursing students, EMT students, and Paramedic students. The training will also receive support from regional medical centers, local ambulance services, law enforcement agencies, and fire departments. The training will have extensive participation from local first responders, according to Dr. Staci Campbell, Department Chair of Nursing

Source: Poplar Bluff Schools Several hundred patrons ate during the Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the Student Activity Center, provided free of charge by Chartwells School Dining Services in partnership with the Poplar Bluff R-I School District. The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps volunteered to help direct traffic, the Board of Education and administration joined the kitchen staff in serving the food, elementary art students designed the placemats, the Senior High Studio Jazz Band performed, and Student Council offered face painting for children. Nearly $200 was raised for the Bread Shed and the Haven House in a collection effort spearheaded by student leaders. The Community Thanksgiving Dinner is a long-standing tradition that was established by Chartwells.
Nov 20,Source: Poplar Bluff Schools Speaker Todd Richardson issued a Poplar Bluff High School senior a resolution on behalf of the Missouri House of Representatives on Thursday, Nov. 11, for founding Students Against Sexual Assault, the only such student-led organization in the state on the high school level as far as the legislator is aware of, he said. With full support of the R-I administration and Board of Education, Grace Hudson established SASA this school year to raise awareness and protect teens from sexual assault, and domestic and dating violence. Nov 18,Source: Poplar Bluff Schools An estimated 70 local vets attended the annual Veterans Day Assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Poplar Bluff Middle School, featuring student interviews with servicemen, essays on Americanism and a special musical tribute led by the Honor Choir. Organized by the counseling department, the Middle School has been hosting a Veterans Day Assembly for the community since 1997.
Nov 18,Source: Poplar Bluff Schools Middle School Junior Beta Club members filled the cafeteria stage with baby care products on Friday, Nov. 13, as a result of the students’ second annual diaper drive for the Child Concern Center of Poplar Bluff. The large donation of diapers and baby wipes represented a two-week collection effort by fifth and sixth graders. A cash donation from students was also made to the nonprofit. The Child Concern Center provides low-income families clothing, diapers, food, utilities and other emergency items.
