• Last Friday, Sikeston local officials joined together with Cotton Ridge Development and their honored guests to officially break ground on the Malco Theatre – an 8-Cinema Movie Theatre that will bring jobs, entertainment, visitors and growth to Sikeston. “Today, in breaking ground on the Malco Theatre, we are opening a new chapter of progress,” Mike Bohannon of Cotton Ridge said. “We are coming together to create jobs and revitalize our economy, and we are the laying the foundation for new opportunities for businesses to grow in the Bootheel.   • This summer 4-H ran a 9 week summer program for ages 5-18. Each Monday youth came to Poplar Bluff to participate in life skill building classes. The cost of classes were $5 each week or $40 for all 9 weeks. Youth were able to participate in robotics, geocaching, arts and crafts, cake decorating, electricity, gardening, healthy living, photography and scrapbooking. All of these activities are part of the 4-H program. In 4-H youth can join clubs in the area and participate in a variety or projects each month. In Butler County there are clubs in Poplar Bluff, Neelyville, Rombauer, Fisk, and Qulin.  If you are interested in getting your child involved in  4-H please contact the University of Missouri Extension

Summer programs provide a safe environment for youth ages 5-18 to spend summer learning about the world. Through gardening youth learn through hands-on activities. Youth will learn the basic concepts of gardening and will be able to garden their own plant, vegetable, or flower. This course will be held on June 8 from 1:00 pm– 4:00 pm.   • Butler County 4-H is excited to start new a 4-H Shooting Sports Club that includes archery and rifle in Poplar Bluff. The goal of these projects is to teach safe and responsible use of shooting sports equipment, sound decision-making, self-discipline and concentration. 4-H Shooting Sports promote the highest standards of safety, sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Each shooting sports club is led by a certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructor who strives to make each meeting fun for the members by incorporating games and competition. Each youth must enroll in 4-H and complete 6 hours of safety instruction. The Shooting Sports safety training will be held on Thursday, May 28 from 6pm-9pm and Saturday, May 30 from 9am-12pm at the Poplar Bluff
