POPLAR BLUFF - Parents were given the opportunity last week to learn about Techbooks that are being utilized by Poplar Bluff Junior and Senior High students as part of the digital transformation. An estimated 200 people participated in Family Night hosted by Discovery Education on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Poplar Bluff High School. Educators collaborated to demonstrate what a blended classroom looks like, combining hands-on activities with technology in the subjects of science and social students.

A total of 260 students of the Poplar Bluff 5th & 6th Grade Center were recently rewarded a WINGS party for good attendance, behavior and academics during the first quarter. Sponsored by the school’s Parent Teacher Organization, students were treated to snacks and fun including an inflated obstacle course, karaoke, basketball, temporary tattoos face, painting and makeovers, courtesy of the cosmetology students at the neighboring Technical Career Center. On Tuesday, a Veterans Day Ceremony was held at 10 a.m. at the campus’ flagpole, with Army/Air Force appreciation Day to follow on Wednesday at noon at the Bess Student Center. Face Painting activities will be part of the fun. Thursday is designated as Navy/Coast Guard Appreciation Day. The week ends with Friday’s R.E.D. Day to remember all deployed troops by wearing red shirts. A “Rock Your Red” bowling party will take place at Bluff Lanes, 6 to 9 p.m., for anyone wearing red that has a college ID. The event takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Westwood Center. Catering will be provided by Maya’s and “Thin Blue Line” will provide the entertainment. Owner Barbara Pelton says that many people have come to view her Open House as their official kick-off for the holiday season. “We have up to 200 people visit our store for this event,” said Pelton. Hours for this year’s event are 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov.7, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
