• More than 50 employers will be taking applications at a Spring Job Fair to be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Bess Activity Center at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.   • Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain the City’s new vacation incentive program. After reading the Daily American Republic article titled “Spaghetti-Gate”, I felt I needed to respond to inform the public about the program and my rationale behind offering the program. I am a member of Rotary and the idea of exchanging a purchased dinner ticket for a day off was born when I wanted to do two things: 1. Improve employee morale, which in turn increases productivity. 2. Help raise money for a local non-profit. Why is this important? I’ll give you two examples: 1. Some employees working for the street department worked for two days during the heavy snow days to clear the City streets.

  • Jessica Sedrick, a Three Rivers student from Piedmont, will advance to the Collegiate DECA national competition after qualifying with a fifth-place finish at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Jefferson City. Sedrick, who is a sophomore in the Business Management program at Three Rivers, will compete in the Hotel and Lodging Management category against qualifying competitors from across the nation. “The competitions are so much fun, and I’m really excited to go to Orlando later this year,” said Sedrick, who has been a member of the Three Rivers DECA chapter since Spring 2014. “I love being a part of DECA, and it feels good to be part of such an active, helpful group.” Sedrick plans to graduate from Three

  • Tyler Lappe of Lake Road Elementary School was among 61 teachers in Missouri who won the outstanding beginning teacher award on Friday, March 6, during the Missouri Association for Colleges of Teacher Education spring conference in Jefferson City. Lappe, a third grade teacher in his very first year, “arrives to school early and stays late,” according to the letter of recommendation from his principal, Erica Weadon. “His leadership qualities and work ethic are outstanding,” added Three Rivers College Coordinator of Teacher Education, Madawn Traxel, who submitted the nomination. Lappe earned his associate degree in teaching elementary education from Three Rivers, where he also received his bachelor’s through an articulation agreement the community college has with Hannibal-LaGrange University.
