The city of Poplar Bluff has decided to invalidate 1200 signatures. Those include any that were mailed in and over 1100 who signed a petition where the first page was the language of the ordinance and the 2nd and 3rd pages were stapled to it with lines for 20 names. Though we are convinced that the City has violated Missouri Law, we only have 10 days to correct this or our entire petition is thrown out. HELP US get this done. Go to
More than the 2900 signatures were gathered to put Open Access to a vote of the people as promised by City Manager, Doug Bagby. Now, the Open Access Petition group turns its attention to protecting the voters who signed the petition. The group’s new web site, www.LetPBDecide.com, is designed to keep the citizens updated on progress and encourage valuable input. Brian Becker, group spokesperson, stated, “It appears to us that these 3400 voters have no advocate within City Hall. City Hall is working to figure out ways to throw out voters. People throughout Southeast Missouri are talking about the Haunted Depot at the Poplar Bluff Historic Train Depot in Downtown Poplar Bluff. A huge group of volunteers have come together to put on a fund raising event to help raise funds for the restoration of the Depot. Chairman of the Haunted Depot committee Rick Carl Woolard tells us, “We have some great folks who have given there time and energy to create an awesome haunted attraction that will scare you.”
We are looking to hire a couple more people for $100 for 10 hours of work this weekend: Saturday (11am to 5:30 with lunch) and Sunday (1:30pm to 5:30). Qualifications that are helpful for the positions are good communications skills, willing to walk door to door, a good listener and a great heart. Must be 18 years of age or older. With our smaller staff, handling a "call in" from a sick staffer is not as simple these days. We will be closing early tonight (4pm 9/19) and reopen at 7am tomorrow morning (9/20).
