On 08-19-14 at approximately 1:50 am, Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department received information that Christopher Gainwell, a subject with several outstanding felony warrants (including charges stemming from a shooting incident reported August 10th), was hiding at a residence in the 1200 block of Bradley st. Officers responded to the residence, and knocked at the front door. As they did, Gainwell attempted to flee the residence through the back door. Doing so, Gainwell encountered an Officer stationed at the rear of the residence; and he tried to retreat back into the residence. On 08-14-14 Butler County Coroner Jim Akers confirmed that the body found in the 1300 block of West Maud st in Poplar Bluff had been identified as that of Justin R Allen of Arlington Texas. Justin Allen had apparently been camped in the area for some time, as several people reported seeing him near the area where his body was found. Some of these witnesses described Allen as unusually thin; and said he seemed confused or disoriented. Examination of the scene and Justin Allen's body revealed no signs of struggle or violence. X-rays determined that there were no broken bones; results of the autopsy were inconclusive, and the cause and manner of death could not be determined. At this time, there is
Aug 14,Captain David Sutton released a press release at 17:23 today: On 08-11-14 at around 1545 hrs Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to the 1300 block of West Maud st, in reference to a report that a body was found in a wooded area. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition; and no cause of death was immediately apparent. Investigators with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Butler County Coroner's Office, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control responded to process the scene.
Aug 11,On 08-10-14 at approximately 2:30 am, Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of Roxie Dr in reference to shots fired into a residence. Witnesses reported that Christopher Gainwell (25 years old, of Poplar Bluff) demanded entry to a residence in the 300 block of Roxie Dr. When the residents refused to let him in, Gainwell produced a handgun and fired three shots into the residence, through a window at the front of the house. No injuries were reported. At the time of this report, Christopher Gainwell was also wanted on outstanding warrants for unrelated felony charges. Aug 10,On 08-03-14 at 9:07 pm Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to the parking lot at Hastings (900 Block of North Westwood Blvd in Poplar Bluff) in reference to a robbery complaint. A 17 year old female victim reported that she was riding in a vehicle with Terrance Fields (19 years old, of the 1300 block of North 10th st Poplar Bluff Missouri), Demetri Rodgers (19 years old, of the 1500 block of Dawn st in Fayetteville Arkansas), and Steven Moore (23 years old, of the 700 block of County Road 605 in Poplar Bluff Missouri).
