Ag Expo 2015 is one of the largest farm trade shows in the region! It is scheduled for January 30 and 31 at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. This is the 29th year of Ag Expo, which is sponsored by Butler County University of Missouri Extension Council and the Ag Club of Three Rivers College. There will be 118 booths available to visit and learn first-hand about agriculture and its importance to the economy.  The expo will also feature outdoor exhibits. Ten thousand people attended last year’s event. Admission is $1 for adults; there will be free admission for college students and youth. The event will be held Friday, January 30 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

NewWave Communications has made a donation to the Three Rivers Endowment Trust to assist with the upgrade of ITV equipment in a classroom at Three Rivers College’s new facility at 1400 S. Main. “We are glad that we were able to make a contribution to the College with its building and expansion project in Sikeston,” said Kyle Alcorn, Vice President of Commercial Services at NewWave. The Poplar Bluff Police Department has recently received several fraud complaints which involve a suspect trying to coerce the victim into paying money for a (nonexistent) bond. In the most recent complaints, the suspect identified himself as “Deputy Jeff Rolland with Butler County”; and threatened to arrest the victims if they did not pay an $800.00 bond using prepaid credit cards. In previous complaints, a suspect posed as a member of the victim’s family; said they had been arrested; and asked the victim to pay their bond using a prepaid credit card. Law Enforcement Agencies do not collect bond money over the phone.  Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to hang up and immediately call their local law

Jennifer Hood, the Administrative Assistant for Three Rivers College’s Career Education and Workforce Development department, has been named as Vice President of the Missouri Association for Customized Training (MACT). Hood, who was elected as Secretary of MACT in 2013, was promoted as part of the regular cycle of officer appointments for the organization. “I’m honored to have this opportunity to represent Three Rivers and Southeast Missouri as an officer,” said Hood, who helps set up and coordinate all of Three Rivers’ workforce training programs. “MACT is an outstanding group of professionals, and their work really helps keep Missouri’s economy growing and driving forward.” Three Rivers has helped to administer and provide training for dozens of state grant funded training programs
